My good friend Sarah had her second baby girl, so a few of us decided to plan a surprise “sprinkle” party to celebrate. She already had all of the gear from her first daughter, so this event was more about honoring her as a friend. Because we’re all busy working moms, it had to be easy to plan and execute with a lot of group participation.
Sarah is known for her elaborate party themes and clever decorations, so I knew I had to hit up Pinterest for some decoration ideas. Tissue paper pom-poms and accordions made with pretty scrapbook paper in the nursery colors of yellow, turquoise, gray, and white were an easy way to decorate the room. We decided on an afternoon tea theme, and served lemonade and tea. Everyone volunteered to bring special dessert treats and we ended up with a delicious assortment of cupcakes, petit fours, pastries, fruit and other snacks.
I wanted to give Sarah something special, so I selected the Woodland gift crate from Apple Park. It arrived in a beautiful box (seriously, put a bow on top and call it wrapped!) with a soft squirrel blankie, mushroom rattle, and storybook. I like that they’re all made with organic, sustainable, and recyclable materials, perfect for a brand new baby (and the planet).
I have to admit, the most difficult part of the party was keeping the party a secret. I’m one of those people who just can’t act normally while holding in a surprise. On the morning of the shower, I stopped at my favorite smoothie place before work. I’d already picked up the cannoli nacho platter (yes, this is a thing and it’s as amazing as it sounds!!) and placed it on the front seat of my car.
While at the smoothie place, I ran into a co-worker who was walking to work and offered him a ride. When we arrived, I checked the parking lot and determined the coast was clear. I asked him to bring in the box. Of course, as soon as we starting walking into the building, Sarah pulled up and I completely flipped out and acted like a crazy person, pretty much running away from both of them. Later, after the big reveal, Sarah admitted she’d thought I’d acted a little strangely. I’d never make it as a spy. ;)
All in all, it was a really fun afternoon and I’m so happy that I had the opportunity to honor such a wonderful friend.
