Nut-free Cereal Bars… and Skylanders!

By -

If you’re the mama of a school-aged boy, you have probably heard of Skylanders. Hayden is currently obsessed with them and has at least 20 of the figures in his “collection.” He sketches drawings of them, brings them along when we run errands, sets them up in a row on his dresser… yeah, he likes them a lot. So when he got this Skylander game that’s in specially marked boxes of General Mills cereal, he was super excited.

Of course he had to open the boxes and start playing immediately so I cut the game board out of the box and he got a game going right away!

Can you tell he was excited? ;)

Of course little sister had to join in on the fun too, she has to do everything brother does!

Remember when you were a kid and you were so excited for the prize inside the cereal box? If I remember correctly, it also seemed like the prize was at the bottom (or at least in the middle) of the bag of cereal somewhere and you had to hunt for it. General Mills makes it easy with this Skylander card set being right on top!

And because everyone loves cereal, we came up with a nut-free cereal bar recipe that both kids and adults will enjoy, I know I did! ;) And since the cereal is sweetened, we only used honey!

Nut-free Cereal Bars
Recipe type: snack
  • 4 cups Cinnamon Toast Crunch Cereal
  • ½ cup honey
  • ½ cup of Sunbutter or your favorite nut-free spread
  1. Bring honey to boil over medium heat and boil for one minute. Remove from heat and add the spread. Stir until well combined. Pour mixture over cereal in a medium bowl. Stir until cereal is well coated. Scoop cereal out into lightly greased 8x8 square pan and press firmly to pack the bars. Allow to cool (I put them in the freezer for a bit to help cool them faster.) Cut into bars and enjoy!
